The General Staff of the Wehrmacht Ground Forces was the most important troops governing body. He developed the strategy and tactics of military operations, through it all issues of “driving troops” passed. The history of the heads of the General Staff is the history of the war of Germany and the USSR of 1941-1945. Hitler, choosing a new leader, sought to dwell on a man who would not remind him of his predecessor. Therefore, the generals who held the post of chief of the General Staff were very different. Their fate also developed in different ways: of the five, whose biographies are given in this book (Ludwig Bek, Franz Halder, Kurt Zeitzler, Gainz Guderian, Hans Krebs), two committed suicide, and three were calmly survived by the war and were never involved in Responsibility and did not bear any punishment. But no matter how different these generals were, they all had one goal, which they tried to bring to life as far as they could achieve the victory of German weapons, and above all in the east.
