The taste of smoke. Kent Kh.
"... They say that I have to die. They say that I blew a candle of someone else's life and now the same fate should comprehend me. At these words, it seems to me that we are all candles, reverently and brightly burning in the dark, in the warrior wind - and then in the silence of the room I hear steps, the terribly and inexorably approaching steps of the one who blow up my flame, and my life will fly away with a gray curl smoke ".
Iceland, the beginning of the XIX century. The young woman Agnes Magnusdottir was sentenced to death for the murder of a lover. In anticipation of the statement of the verdict, Agnes is sent to a remote farm, where she has to live several months in an ordinary family. Disrupted and chained in a chain, at first the peasants perceive it as a monster, but over time they begin to understand that the real story is much more complicated than presented in the court...
“the taste of smoke” is a book about what has become about what has become months of cohabitation for Agnes and those who sheltered it. This is a psychological drama, unfolding against the backdrop of harsh northern landscapes, among laconic and restrained people who are nevertheless capable of desperate acts.
