The publication is devoted to the history of the creation of a Russian courtyard with the Church of St. Nicholas in the Italian city of Bari. This is one of the central works of the pre-revolutionary period of the work of the outstanding Russian architect Alexei Viktorovich Schusev (1873-1949). The design and construction of the courtyard took place under the auspices of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fedorovna and Emperor Nicholas II, artists K. S. Petrov-Vodkin, A.E. Yakovlev, V. I. Shukhaev, V. A. Plotnikov and V. were invited to paintings from the temple. S. Shcherbakov.
The book as fully as possible published the design graphics of the architect, sketches of artists, documentary evidence of construction participants and pre -revolutionary photography. Most of these materials are published for the first time and provided by state museums, archives and private collections, a significant place among which is the archive of Schusev’s heirs.
