The tragedy of Mr. Morne. Nabokov V.V.
“The tragedy of Mr. Morne” (1924), the largest and most significant work of Vladimir Nabokov until the mid -1920s, was not published during the life of the author. For the first time, a hundred years after its creation, it is a separate publication. The acute plot of “tragedies”, the displacing levels of reality and illusions, fantastic and colorfulness, according to B. Boyd, anticipated the style of the mature Nabokov, especially his mysterious novels as “Solus Rex” and “Pale Fire”. The classic plot with a love triangle, treason, flight and revenge is imposed on a nbokovsky subtly defined different plan of reality, in which only the magic of creativity is able to transform the terrible reality of the rebellious northern capital of a brilliant, but doomed kingdom.
The publication is equipped with comments and an application that publishes a prosaic presentation of “Tragedy”, work notes, early options and new archival materials.
