The collection of works by the English writer Herbert Wells included his best scientific - fantastic novels, which became a kind of hallmark of the author and the classic of the “Time Literature”: “Time Machine” (1895) - a gloomy narrative about the life of humanity of the sample of 802 701, “Island of Dr. Moro” (1896) and “Invisible Man” (1897)-stories about amazing experiments committed by brilliant and crazy scientists who boldly endure the laws of nature, legal prohibitions and moral norms, and “War of Worlds” (1897)- One of the first books on the theme of alien aggression, popular in the later literature and cinema, threatening the existence of mankind. “When the sleeper wakes up” (1898–1899) ”and“ The first people on the Moon ”(1901) are samples of Weles' social fantasy, in which various negative models of social structure are played (whether it be the lunar hierarchical society“ anthill ”, controlled by the Great Lunaria, or the totalitarian regime established by the White Council on Earth of the late XXI century) and the possibility of changing them.
