Bishop Ignatius (in the world Dmitry Alexandrovich Bryanchaninov, 1807-1867) - an outstanding scientist, theologian, preacher, ascetic, author of numerous spiritual works. He came from an old noble surname, and received education at a military engineering school. In 1827 he entered the Apocado-Svir Monastery, then to Optina Deserts. In 1857, he was ordained a bishop of Caucasian and Black Sea. He spent the last years of his life in the Nikolo-Babaevsky monastery of the Kostroma diocese, where he wrote his famous theological works and continued correspondence with spiritual children. In 1988, he was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church. The works of the saint are of constant interest in everyone who thinks about issues of spiritual life. “Look for the spirit everywhere, not letters,” he called, discussing true religiosity and faith. The collection includes the work “The Word about a man”, “The concept of heresy and split”, “On miracles and signs”, as well as a number of letters of the saint dedicated to the future of Russia.
