Most of the articles of the collection are dedicated to the theater of milestone, crisis eras. The author reveals the significance of the largest artistic directions that opposed the official doctrine and mass art. Antiquity in the perception of theatrical innovators of the late XIX-early XX centuries, Rococo in the XVIII century, symbolism in the late XIX, Modern at the beginning of the XX, surrealism in the 1920s. It was in them that phenomena were born and matured, which largely ahead of their time and determined the culture of today.

For centuries, Russian and world art developed in a close relationship.
