The original name from the first edition of 1937 (the last lifetime) until the 3rd in 1944 was “The theory of classical architectural forms”. In 1949, for conjunctural reasons, they published the fourth edition under a different name “Architectural forms of antiquity.”
The book of an honored historian I.B. Mikhalovsky (1864–1939) introduces the reader with classic architectural forms used by the architects of the ancient Greece, ancient Rome and the Renaissance. The work contains many valuable information about the elements and techniques of compositions in architecture and, according to the author, should become a table book for all studying architecture - in other words, the alphabet of architecture.
The book is intended for architects, historians of science, culture and art , students of architectural specialties, as well as a wide circle of readers interested in classical heritage.
