The method of similarity is described, which allows to combine the reliability of the experimental and the community of theoretical approaches to the study of the processes of the machining of metals. The conditions for the exclusion of errors in its use are considered, related to the arbitrary set of dimensionless, but physically not reflecting the essence of the processes of criteria of similarity. Methods of analytical research of the spread of heat, deformations, laws of friction and diffusion are presented.
