In 1988, opening the poetic evening of Alexander Kushner in Boston, Joseph Brodsky called him the largest Russian lyric of the 20th century. This high praise reveals its meaning in the roll call with the definition that Kushner himself gave the lyrics: “What is lyrics? This is a special, hot attention to a person, to any object, any thing on earth, this is a special attitude to the world, its phenomena, a view of things and people, painted in personal, heart tones. ”

It is this freedom in choosing the subject of speaking, sensitivity to peace and sincerity in relations with it distinguishes the entire poetic building of Kushner. Having begun to be printed in the late 1950s, when the main line of literature performed ideological tasks, and a little later, the execution of representatives and entire schools of reactions in the person of new avant-garde and language experimenters, Kushner wrote and continued to write poetry about trees, the sea and stars, about children's memories, The architecture of the beloved city, sad dreams, about love, life and death - paving the path of that true poetry that invariably peers into the smallest events of life, penetrating into its depths.

This collection reflects the being of the poetic talent of Kushner for five decades. During this time, his poems became an integral part of not only domestic, but also world poetry, but, like any genuine lyrics, they live today, belonging to eternity.
