Timosh, the son of the Ukrainian hetman Bogdan Khmelnitsky, promised his father that he would find a special bride, the princess, as from a fairy tale, and restrained his word. The princess was found for him - the daughter of the Moldavian Prince Vasily. The father makes plans to keep Ukraine in the power of himself, and put his son in Moldova.
