Essay “On“ North Athos ”, notes of a student-a pilgrim at Valaam, is the first published work of Metropolitan Benjamin (Fedchenkova, 1880-1961). Genre scenes and household sketches in these notes are adjacent to deep thoughts, apologetic and polemic nights are clearly sounded, literary portraits of people are bright and expressive. The essay was written by a young man twenty-four years old, a “academician” student, “solid” theology, freely quoting patristic creations, and at the same time-cheerful young men, alive and direct, singing the Irmos “On the Water”.
