Maria Andreevna Lyalina (1838–1910) - writer and translator, author of many popular books for children and youth at one time, mainly about Russian sailors and travelers.

The book covers the main scientific achievements of the researcher of the northern and Central Asia Grigory Nikolayevich Potanin on his own works. The results of five research expeditions to Central and East Asia, which Potanin headed and carried out on behalf of the Russian Geographical Society from 1876 to 1899, are described. During these five expeditions, Potanin visited Mongolia, Altai, China, Tibet, as well as different corners of Siberia.
