Traveling to Siam. Leonouns A.
Anna Leonuans - adventurer and suffrazhist. All her life she hid her age and the history of her origin, along with the missionaries traveled along Egypt and Palestine, opposed slavery, taught 6 years in the harem of King Siam (Thailand) and went down in history as the most famous English governess.
Staying a widow at 28 with a little son and daughter in her arms, Anna opened a school in Singapore for children of British officers. Soon she received an invitation from King Siam to teach English to 82 offspring and 39 wives. This is a book-imprint on life in the palace, about the harsh rules of the harem, about the culture and customs of Siam.
In 1870, Anna published her memories of the mysterious Asian country, in which two kings rule, worship the white elephant and cremate the royal dead a year after their death. The legends of Siam were struck by contemporaries, and the book immediately became a bestseller. 18 stroke illustrations give a special spirit to the publication.
The book is first published in Russian.
