The works of a German writer became a classic of youth literature, repeatedly reprinted, were translated into dozens of languages ​​and filmed. The beginning of the cycle was laid by the novel of the same name, which was released in 1951, and its author was awarded the prestigious literary award. In subsequent years, Veloscope-Genrich did not leave work on the book and expanded it significantly. The first full edition saw the light in three volumes in the early 1960s (later the cycle also reached the form of a six-meter). For the active support of the North American Indians, the Tribal Union, the union, awarded the writer the honorary title of Lakota-Tashin, the defender of Lakota.
