The collection publishes documents and visual materials from the collection of the Russian State Archive of Literature and Arts related to the female environment of I. S. Turgenev, directly or indirectly influenced the formation of the literary image of the “Turgenev girl”.

It consists of sections dedicated to the mother of the writer V.P. Turgeneva and her pupil V.N. Zhitova; his daughter Polina Brier (Turgeneva) and granddaughter Jeanne; Women-writers (Georges Sand, L. F. Nelidova, O. A. Novikova, V. A. Tsurikova) and friendly environment (N. A. Tuchkova-Ograva, N. A. Herzen, J.A. and N. and N. and N. and N. J. Polonsky, S. G. Shchepkina); actress M.G. Savina; The French singer and vocal teacher Polina Viardot.

The book is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of I. S. Turgenev and is intended not only for researchers of the life and work of the writer, but also for a wide range of specialists in the field of Russian history cultures, students of humanitarian educational institutions, readers interested in Russian classical literature.
