Two brothers. Elton B.
February 24, 1920 in Berlin two babies are born who are destined to become brothers. On the same day, the National Socialist Party was created in Munich.
Paul and Otto are inseparable and both are similar to their Jewish parents, although they are not at all like each other. They do not even know that one of them is a trick - moreover, not a Jew. Their father plays jazz clubs, the mother heals sick, life in Germany, barely recovering after the Great War, is slowly getting better. The brothers grow together, are friends with one girl together, and together fall in love with another. But when the Nazis come to power, life changes irreversibly and terribly: in a nightmare country, blood and origin are suddenly most important.
Ben Elton - British writer, director, screenwriter of the Black Viper sitcom and creator of the musical “We Will Rock You ” - wrote a piercing and honest novel based on the history of his family. As in life, there are laughter and tears, tenderness and anger, fidelity and betrayal. This is a story about what people are ready to sacrifice for the sake of survival - their own and those whom they love. What should they do with everyday hatred, with a relentless memory, with an unchilding pain - and how from all this is sometimes loneliness, fear and cruelty, and sometimes kindness, wisdom and happiness.
