Uncle Tom's hut. Agnes from Sorrento. Beche-Stou G.
The novel “Uncle Tom’s hut” of the American writer Harriet Beche-Stow (1811–1896) very quickly gained worldwide fame and recognition. Written in the characteristic of the XIX century by the sentimental style of “Female Prose”, this book made a grandiose coup in public mood, winning an important place not only in the history of literature, but also in the cultural and political history of the United States of America.
In this edition, the novel “The Uncle Tom Higher” is presented in full, without bills and gaps characteristic of Soviet translation, and is also accompanied by remarkable rare illustrations of the artist Grigory Filippovsky (1909–1987). Also, the book was included in the religious and historical novel “Agnes from Sorrento”, published ten years after the “Hiber of Uncle Tom”.
The action of the novel takes place in sunny Italy at the end of the 15th century, during the reign of the infamous Pope Alexander the sixth. The beautiful, young Agnes dreams of devoting himself to serving God, having gone to the monastery. However, its beauty is attracted by the persistent attention of men, among whom is the young leader of the robbers, excommunicated from the church, and the harsh abbess of the monastery.
