Vanity and greed. Two stories. Leikin N.A.
Nikolai Alexandrovich Leikin, as always, convexly and vividly depicts vices, whose name is the two novels of this collection. In the first story, the merchant who considers himself above his “gray brothers with all his might tries to impress high society, and in the second retired official, reminiscent of a stingy knight, saves every penny even on the most necessary to make deposits.
However, the author is not limited to this: although the paints are intentionally thickened for the great comic, its characters are multifaceted and very human in all its manifestations. Written more than a hundred years ago, these texts are truly relevant at any time, because neither vanity nor human greed change. Only details are changing, by the way, very subtly noticed by the author and make the work interesting even from the point of view of domestic household history.
