The defense of Moscow in the fall of 1941 was a key event in the Great Patriotic War - the fate of the country was decided in these battles. Thanks to the courage and heroism of the Soviet soldiers, the enemy managed to stop near Moscow and a great merit belongs to the 316th Infantry Division of Major General I.V. Panfilova.
Alexander Bek participated in the Moscow battle and already in 1942 he began working on a story about the defenders of Moscow. The author leads his narrative on behalf of the commander of the battalion of the Panfilov Division of the Kazakh Baurzhan Mumys-Uly. The story is based on real historical events.
The book was translated into 10 foreign languages and recommended for reading in the Armed Forces of Israel, Finland and Germany, and the famous revolutionary Che Guevara called the Volokolamsk highway to his table book. In 1967, the story was filmed and released on the screens called “We are Moscow.”
