In his book, St. Petersburg writer Andrei Ostrovsky (1926-2001) talks about the confrontation of military counterintelligence with German saboteurs during the blockade and the fighting of the police with crime in the post-war Leningrad.
In the story “Stress”, in the winter of 1941, in the blockade city, employees of the Special Department investigate the suicide of the 3rd rank of Yevgeny Lukinsky, who worked at the defense plant. A German rocket launcher and sleeve was found near the body of the murdered. Investigators suggest that the suicide with the help of a rocket launcher brought enemy aircraft during bombing. One of the investigators-the captain-lieutenant of the Special Department of Vsevolod Benediktov was familiar with Lukinsky. During the search, Benedicta finds a suicide diary, after meeting with whom, he begins to doubt the voluntary care of Lukinsky’s life. Unraveling the crime of Benedicts enters the trail of a group of German agents who eliminated a talented engineer. While the investigator is looking for enemies in a blockade city, his wife dies, but nothing can stop Benediktov, and the entire group of enemy agents was detained. The name of the story perfectly corresponds to its content, until the last page the author keeps us in suspense and ignorance of the further development of the plot.
In the story “Night will not hide”, Leningrad operatives investigate the mysterious murder of a citizen Krasilnikov in the garden “January 9th“ January 9th ". In this story there is love and jealousy, a circus and a Czech -made pistol. The detectives took almost a year to find the killers and identify the chain of speculators in the post -war Leningrad.
The story “Ringeous month of April” completes the collection. In it, the author shows the everyday life of the Leningrad police in the post -war period.
