Sherwood Anderson (1876-1941). A brilliant short story, recognized classic of American literature, grew up in a small town in the Middle West in a poor family. He was a soldier managing a factory, a publisher, an editor. Literary glory brought him a cycle of stories “Winesburg, Ohio” (1919) about the life of the American province of the beginning of the 20th century. The strange fate of the heroes, in their unusual characters, reflected the understanding of human nature and the whole life experience of the writer. Anderson's work has had a huge impact on the development of American literature, on the formation of masters such as Hemingway, Faulkner, Steinbeck.
