The events taking place in the novel cover one year from the life of the peoples of Usuns, the Cangers and Oguzes, who were in a very variable neighborhood among themselves in the 9th century BC and who lived in modern Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The narrative in the novel also affects the emergence of the prerequisites of statehood in these peoples, and their relations in issues of conducting military operations and creating military unions, and the problems of trade and control over the caravan routes, and the rather difficult work of scouts, and, of course, very difficult human relations, associated with both friendship and enmity, and with high feelings between people. But the most important essence in all this diverse intricacies of fate of both entire nations and each specific person is that all of them through blood heredity, from generation to generation, are tirelessly, in spite of what, they go forward through years, decades and centuries. They are forever walking. They are us in their future. We are them in our past.
