N. G. Chernyshevsky’s novel “What to do?” - One of the most ambiguous works of Russian literature. The novel saw the light in 1863 and immediately caused a violent polemic: from sharply negative reviews of the writers of a conservative sense to enthusiasm for enthusiasm in a circle of revolutionary youth. According to the memoirs of contemporaries, there was no student or even a gymnasium student who did not read “what to do?”. In the Soviet era, Chernyshevsky took an honorable place on the literary Olympus, and his main work was included in the compulsory school curriculum.
