The main character of the novel Yuri Khramtsov, whose youth came during the collapse of the Soviet Empire, works as a doctor. He saves others and tries to confront those trifles that fate slips him every now and then, but the main threat with which he is fighting his whole life is the fear of going crazy, and for this fear the hero has reasons. Having survived an emotional breakdown, the temple enters the neuropsychiatric dispensary, where he meets the senior colleague, an elderly woman-professor, who becomes his assistant and mentor. From therapeutic conversations and correspondence of the two doctors, the narrative of the novel was built.
