With the king and without the king. Voeikov V.
Vladimir Nikolaevich Voeikov (1868-1947) was one of the most entrusted close to Nicholas II in the last period of his reign, being the Major General of the Emperor’s retinue and the palace commandant responsible for his safety (this position was taken in 1913 and lost it Only in connection with the renunciation of the king). After the February Revolution, he was arrested, in 1918 he emigrated.
Voeikov’s memoirs, first published in Russian in Finland in 1936, and today are of undoubted interest, since the author was not only dedicated to all political and high -society intricacies but also had his own, sometimes very original point of view. In addition to the vivid characteristics of Russian state, political and military figures of that period, the book also contains little -known details of the life and everyday life of the royal family. In addition to court posts, Voeikov held the post of first honorary chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee and presented the country in the Summer Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912.
