Betty Fridan (1921 - 2006) is an American writer, one of the leading figures of feminism in the United States, the first president of the National Organization of Women and the founder of the National Women's Political faction, who has achieved considerable success in the struggle for equality.

This book gave the initial impetus to the modern female movement in 1963 and, as a result, forever changed the structure of society in the United States and other countries of the world. It was this work of Betty Fridan that deprived the image of a housewife of a romantic halo and brought women to the labor market with a desire to achieve material independence, receive a decent education and make a career.
