The elder can see in the very heart of the human soul the origin of evil and the causes of this origin and, knowing the soul of man, indicates the right path to salvation, revealing people the will of God ”-this is the statement of the confessor of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Archimandrite Naum (Baiborodin). Being, according to eyewitnesses, one of the pillars of the old age of the 20th century, he knew everything about the "cultural phenomenon of old age." Therefore, he spoke in such detail about the emergence of seniority, about the elders of the Holy Mount Athos and Optina Desert.

Father Naum spread the preaching of patristic teachings not only by instruction from the amvon or from confessional, but also through the compilation of collections and publication of books.
