Year of miracles. Brooks J.
The fatal 1665, the Great London plague spreads around the country- along with the infected fabric, it falls into a remote village. The disease moves from home to the house, residents of the village can only pray. Only a few can withstand misfortunes, among them the maid Anna Frit. Not subject to a burden, she becomes a healer. And the villagers meanwhile go from prayers to witch hunt. Together with the wife of the local priest, Anna fights not only with the plague, but also with the madness spreading among the inhabitants of the village. Thanks to the dedication of the two women, the year of the catastrophe turns around the year of miracles. The novel is inspired by the real events that occurred in the IEM village in the harsh hilly area of England. In an amazing way, this story about the epidemic at the time, when medicine was in its infancy, resonates with our time, when responsiveness and compassion are especially important. Geraldin Brooks talks about how the stamina and mercy of some help the others to cope with superstitions, fears and bad impulses.
