Zelba justice. Slave's deception. Farewell to Zelb. Shlink B., PopP V.
During World War II, Gerhard Zelb was a prosecutor, after the war he opened a detective agency. Now he is seventy, he does not sit without work, and each business turns into a major surprise - as a rule, unpleasant. A childhood friend asks to investigate hacker attacks - and Zelbu, who does not understand anything in computers, but understands well in people, the gloomy secret of the past, which would be better to remain a secret, reveals. An unknown customer unceremoniously demands to find the missing girl, supposedly his daughter, and Zelb is involved in a frantic race, where there will be terrorism, phantom and real fires, treasure, lies and madness.
A random acquaintance with a banker seems to be an irrelevant order-to find a secret company of the bank-and suddenly people die unknown why financial frauds are revealed, Mafia pops up from muddy depths, they abduct, they lie, all in the doorbell, in the door Every now and then a person battered with unexpected news is knocking on fate, and all this seriously threatens Zelb's health. Such a life would not be easy to endure if Zelb was not abundant in abuse, self -irony, determination of a born bloodhound, as well as friendship of people who are ready to support in the most strange situation.
In 1987, Bernhard Schlink, a respected lawyer and teacher, to some surprise of the public, suddenly turned to the "easy" genre and, together with Walter Popp, wrote "Justice of Zelba", and then, already on his own, two sequels, for one of which received the oldest and most prestigious detective literary prize of Germany Deutscher Krimipreis; Numerous prizes for his famous novel “Reader” were still ahead. Shlinka trilogy about Zelbe - three densely mixed stories that horror often lurks behind the innocent facade, and the past will always catch up with him, no matter how he run.
