Zurvanism in ancient and medieval Iran. The experience of religious studies. Krupnik I.L.

The book is based on the text of the dissertation research “Zurvanism as a phenomenon of the spiritual culture of the ancient and early medieval Iran”, protected by the author at the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov in 2008 and became one of the winners of the competition for the best candidate dissertation, annually, annually conducted by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Philosophy.

The study makes an attempt to reconstruct the phenomenon of zurvanism, which is understood by the author as Iranian religious and philosophical teaching, or a circle of ideas based on the recognition of the supremacy of time and fate and pessimistic anthropology. Similar research of Western European Iranists, primarily R. C. Zener and X. S. Nyberg, are taken as a basis. A wide range of issues is considered: the methodological problems of the study of zurvanism, the historical explication of zurvanism, the problem of the search and determination of its ideological sources; Zurvanitic myths, cosmological and anthropological representations are reconstructed.
