Alexander Nevskiy. Vasiliev B.
The novel “Alexander Nevsky” of the outstanding writer Boris Vasiliev (1924-2013) tells of the life of a glorious Russian commander, statesman and holy Russian Orthodox Church.
XIII century time for Rus' is extremely tense: danger threatens both from the Golden Horde from the East, and from the Swedes and Germans from the west. In addition, Rus' is constantly torn by internecine wars. Prince Yaroslav Vsevolodovich, who alternately occupied the three princely thrones of Vladimir, Novgorod and Kiev, tried to put an end to the fratricidal turmoil, which prevented Rus' from rallying in the face of an external enemy, but failed.
What the father failed, was able to do his son Prince Alexander Yaroslavich, who remained in the history of the Russian and the memory of the people under the nickname Nevsky. A brave warrior, a wise ruler, a subtle diplomat, he defeated the Army of the Swedes, defeated the German knights-crossers in the ice battle, eliminated the threat of attacking Rus' from the west and managed to establish peace with the Golden Horde and Lithuania.
