Bible in Chuvash
Work on the translation of the Holy Scriptures into Chuvash language began at the beginning of the 19th century. The first Bible books in the Chuvash language were published back in 1820, founded in 1813 by the Russian Biblical Society. The New Testament was then translated then almost the whole, but only the four -gospel was published. In the second half of the 19th century, a new translation of the Bible into the Chuvash language was launched, this time Ivan Yakovlevich Yakovlev - one of the outstanding figures of the culture of the Chuvash people. The New Testament and individual books of the Old Testament were completely translated.
In 1991, this work was continued on the initiative of the Chuvash Biblical Commission under the leadership of the Metropolitan of the Cheboksary and Chuvash Barnabas with the organizational, scientific and financial assistance of the Russian biblical society and the united biblical biblical. Societies.
In the work on the translation of the Old Testament, prominent Chuvash writers, poets and writers took part at different times. The translation group worked in close contact with the Chuvash clergy. The theological editing was conducted under the guidance of a translated consultant of the United Bibles (ON) Archpriest Sergius Ovsyannikov. The coordination of the work of all participants in the translation process, the technical preparation of books, the development of fonts and the creation of the layout were carried out by employees of the St. Petersburg branch of the RBO.
