Prince Ryurik (d. 879, the state of Rurik) - according to the Russian chronicles and the feeding books, the Varangian and the first ruler of Rus' (the option is the first Novgorod prince) and the ancestor of the Russian princely, which later became the Ryurikovich dynasty. P> According to the story, placed under 862 in the “Tale of Bygone Years” and in the undivided part of the Novgorod first annals, Rurik was invited to reign (varyags’s calling) by Chudi, Sloven, Krivichi, Mary, and possibly, possibly, weights. He began to reign in Ladoga (according to the Ipatievsky list of “Tale of Bygone Years”) or in Novgorod (according to the Lavrentievsky list and the Novgorod first chronicle of the younger head; however, the archaeological layers of Novgorod were not revealed). Together with Rurik, his brothers Sineus and Truvor came. Sineus sat in Beloozer (now - Belozersk), and Truvor - in Izborsk. After the death of the brothers, Rurik became the sole ruler.
there are different versions of the origin of Rurik. A number of researchers consider Rurik as the Scandinavian leader or ruler, whom the Slavic and Finnish tribes called for reign, concluding an agreement with him. Some researchers identify him with a horseman roorick from the Jutland Hedebu (Denmark). Supporters of antinormanism offer various alternative versions of the origin of Rurik. There is also a point of view that Rurik is a fictional figure and looking for its origin is pointless.
