The first posthumous collected works of M. L. Gasparov (in six volumes) sets its task to most fully convey the versatility of his scientific interests and present the main directions of his research.
The first volume includes the work of Gasparov for anti -bearing, mainly dedicated to ancient Greece. Along with analytical articles constituting the main content of the volume and united into thematic groups on the genre and chronological principle, the publication includes preface and accompanying articles to the translations of ancient Greek monuments. They are extremely compressed and vividly characterized by both the work of individual poets (for example, Pindar) and the artistic specificity of the whole genre (epigrams or fables).
These articles are inseparable from transfers itself, fragments of which are included in each thematic section, since in the understanding of Gasparov the translation is almost the main form of understanding the ancient heritage. The main thing is also because he considered it his most important task to bring closer to the understanding of antiquity the most wide audience. Therefore, this volume opens with “entertaining Greece” - at the same time the most “non -scientific” and the most popular work of Gasparov, dedicated to antiquity. In it, the idea is the best can be traced, uniting all such various works of the scientist: to make ancient texts and ancient authors not only understandable, but also speaking the language of the natural and close to the reader of the modern era.
