Vladimir Ivanovich Dal (1801-1872) - one of the brightest representatives of Russian culture of the XIX century. Following in the footsteps of a date, he received a medical education, worked as a doctor, served in the army; Then the years of service followed as an official.
However, the most Vladimir Ivanovich was attracted by Russian literature. The “Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language” created by him and the collection “Proverbs of the Russian People” has not yet lost their significance, since they are documents that recorded the language, spirit and wisdom of the Russian people and thereby perpetuated them.
Sometimes, exalting the achievement of the Dali-scientist and the collector of folklore, undeservedly forget his literary heritage. In addition to many stories, stories, essays, in which Dal was one of the first to try to truthfully and without embellishment to portray the lives of ordinary Russian people, Vladimir Ivanovich left the descendants a huge number of fairy tales addressed not only to children of all ages, but also to adults. Extremely highly appreciated them by A. S. Pushkin, with whom Dalya was associated with close friendship, and it was they who inspired the greatest Russian poet to create a “fairy tale about a fisherman and a fish.”
Dal turned to the genre of a fairy tale throughout the whole Life, and not only Russian, but also Ukrainian, Bulgarian, oriental tales attracted his attention. However, it was Russian folk tales, as well as proverbs, songs, games, riddles occupied a special place in this series. In the acquaintance of children with folk art, Dahl saw both a means of moral education, and the key to the strength of the relationship of the younger generation with the “soil”, “roots”, the birthplace, and the prerequisite for mastering children with real, pure, living Russian.
This collection includes the most famous fairy tales of the writer.
