The concept of the textbook is based on the idea of ​​reflecting the history and spiritual world of the peoples of Russia in music. Students plunge into the origins of folk art, penetrate the essence of national musical art, get acquainted with the variety of its forms and genres. The process of the formation of domestic musical classics takes place in front of them on the example of the work of M. I. Glinka, P. I. Tchaikovsky, M.P. Mussorgsky, S. V. Rachmaninov.
