In the year of the 150th anniversary of the abolition of serfdom in Russia, the publishing house Tonsch reprinted six volumes of books “Great Reform. Russian society and the peasant issue in the past and present ”, issued in 1911 in Russia by the printing of the partnership I.D. Sytin for the 50th anniversary of the abolition of serfdom. The second volume of the book contains from the 4th to the 6th volume. The book shows the desire of the advanced part of Russian society to cancel serfdom. Of great interest are the chapters dedicated to the peasant life, the organization of the economy and the ethnographic features of the peasants of various provinces. Particular attention in the publication is paid directly to the preparation and implementation of the reform itself to cancel serfdom on February 19, 1861, its consequences, as well as the issue of the influence of serfdom on the development of art and literature. The publication contains numerous legal documents, legislative acts regarding the provisions of the peasants.
