Journalist and prose writer Vladimir Petrovich Burnashev (1810-1888) enjoyed wide reader's popularity in the early 1870s. In his memoirs, he painted the living paintings of the household, military and literary life of the second quarter of the XIX century. His memories are covered by a wide range of people - famous state and military figures (M.M. Speransky, E.F. Kankrin, A.P. Ermolov, V.G. Bibikov, see Kamensky, etc.), writers (A.S.. Memoirs are especially interesting in that their author carefully recorded rumors, gossip and jokes that circulated in Russian society of the second half of the 19th century.

the reputation of writers of that time, life, balls, entertainment, literary salons, cooking, clothing - all this in the memoirs of Burnashev was transmitted brightly and reliably. The book also included the previously published article by the outstanding literary critic Yu.G. Oksman about Burnashev.
