According to one of the legends, the prototype of the nesting doll became the Buddhist figure, which was brought from Japan to the workshop near Moscow. She was painted under the old man-mud, in whom 4 figures of his students were invested. The figure immediately attracted the attention of workshop workers, and already in 1890 a domestic doll appeared, which consisted of 8 brightly painted figures. And she got her name thanks to the name of Matryona, common in those days.
