The textbook is intended for students with intellectual disorders and ensures the implementation of the requirements of the adapted basic general educational program in the subject area “Language and speech practice” in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard of the Education of Students with Intellectual Disorders. The textbook implements continuity in the selection and structuring of artistic and scientific and artistic texts in accordance with the principles of thematic and genre diversity, presented in reading textbooks for grades 2–4.

The structure of each of the 14 sections of the textbook is built in such a way that in the first introductory lesson the knowledge and representations on the topic of the section are revealed, the latter is fixed and systematized by the knowledge gained during the analysis and analysis of the content of the read works.

In order to improve the technique of reading in each of the sections, the section “Read yourself!” is included.
