The clamp got its name for similarity to the jaws of a crocodile.

it consists of two figured parts with "crocodile" teeth, fastened with a special pin and capable of turning to a certain angle around the connection axis. To one of the parts, the contact wire is mounted. The compression of the “jaws” is provided by a spring inserted on the other side of the pin.
