More than fifteen years have passed since the events of the “Holder’s story”, the Republic of Galaad with its theocratic regime still holds power, but the first signs of internal decomposition appear. In this important time, the fate of three very different women intertwine - and the results of their union promise an explosion. Two of them belong to the first generation that grew up in a new order. The third joins their voices - the voice of the aunt of Lydia. Her difficult past and vague future is hidden in many puzzles. In the “Testaments”, Margaret Etwood lifts the veil over the internal mechanisms of Galaad, and in the light of the truths revealed, every heroine must understand who she is and decide how far she is ready to go in the struggle for what she believes.

The action takes place 15 years after the final of the first book. The continuation of the story of Gilead, designed from the point of view of the three characters - the aunts of Lydia (known according to the storyteller), the daughter of a commander, Agnes and a girl living in Canada, named Daisy. The reader learns that Aunt Lydia was forced to become part of Gilead, although she did not want to. Secretly, she turns out to be an agent of resistance. After the death of her mother, Tabita Agnes discovers that she is actually a child of the maid, after a second marriage of her father, she manages to avoid marriage and instead become a candidate for the role of aunt with her friend Becky. She learns about the internal corruption and ranging of Gilead, including the murders, who were hidden by her father and his new wife. And she also finds out that she is the sister of the baby Nicole, a girl abducted from Gilead many years ago and is a symbol of an innocent victim, who suffered from the rottenness of the external world, meanwhile, in Daisy living in Canada, parents are killed (agents of Gilead), it turns out that she and she and she and she and she and There is a baby Nicole, and the parents were members of resistance. Nicole is hidden, but then they decide to send to Gilead as an agent under a different name. In Gilead, she meets with Agnes and Lydia, the latter by tattoo will recognize Nicole in it.
