The textbook for the 2nd grade consists of two books. The first book is “What is the word?”. The textbook continues the line of reading development, begun in first grade, focusing on the literary reading as the art of the word. The main idea of ​​the textbook is the idea of ​​human talents. The child, independently developing this idea in his own activity, is gradually led to the idea of ​​the talent of the reader and the writer. The first part of the book introduces students to the role of a word in human life, in literature. Thus, in the focus of the attention of a class 2 teacher, the artistic image of the word is a grade 2. The concept of the word is considered in its various manifestations, among different authors showing its originality, capacity and artistry. These are various speech situations in which the significance of the hero’s speech and the author’s position is revealed; Fabulous images in Russian folk tales. The reader reveals such concepts as: the direct and indirect meaning of the word; intonation (increase and decrease in tone), allegory; the image of the hero of the fairy tale; Dialogue of heroes as a means of their characteristics. Didactic texts for mastering the method of reading in grade 2 are reasoning on different topics: disclosure of the world of the book, reflection on genres, shades of a word, author’s intention. The texts of the textbook are accompanied by creative tasks that help to feel the ambiguity of the word, its multifunctionality. Tasks and texts are accompanied by copyright articles that set specific tasks for students and invite them to a conversation, communication in the process of observing a word in different copyright texts. Medication tasks at the end of each section have an additional function of self-control. Creative tasks continue the substantive line of initial literary education, correspond to the psychological age of students, their reader interests. The textbook is perfectly illustrated.
