The book sets out the theoretical material in detail, which complements, systematizes, generalizes and deepens theoretical information on the Russian language for the course of the main school. The exercises proposed in the textbook are determined by practical expediency, aimed at analyzing the texts of different functional styles, ensure the expansion of the linguistic horizons, the formation of linguistic taste, deepening knowledge about the language. The first part of the textbook is devoted to general information about the language and sections of linguistics: phonetics, orthoepy, vocabulary, phraseology, morphemics, word formation, morphology and spelling.

The second part generalizes and deepens information about syntax and punctuation, style and speech culture. The topics “Combination of punctuation marks”, “optional punctuation marks”, “author’s punctuation”, which will help to understand such features of Russian punctuation as variant in the setting of punctuation marks, multifunctionality of punctuation marks and their ambiguity. Studying topics "Active processes in the language. Language ecology ”,“ Speech activity. Types of speech activity. Speech communication ”will expand students' knowledge about the current state of the Russian language and speech communication. At the end of each section, tasks are given to prepare for the exam, which allows not only to summarize the material passed, but also to prepare for the exam. Essays on famous linguists, orthoepic and spelling dictionaries, as well as tasks for preparing for the annual philological project, are completing the textbook.

The textbook complies with the Federal State Educational Standard of Secondary General Education, the approximate basic educational program of secondary general education and the concept of teaching the Russian language and literature in the Russian Federation.
