You have already studied the “Textbook of Chess Combinations” and can easily solve simple exercises in which the goal is achieved thanks to one or three correct moves. It is time to take the next step - to learn how to solve more complex tasks, where a deeper plan is required to achieve success. Such combinations and maneuvers bring not only victory, but also aesthetic pleasure, and thanks to books and magazines, they forever remain in the treasury of chess art. So in our new book, combinations are presented that met in the parties of famous chess players, including outstanding masters of the past and present. There are many specially drawn up positions here, but these are no longer educational exercises, but artistic works called sketches. In them, this or that idea is usually expressed in a more clear, clear and memorable form than this happens in a practical game. As in our first book, the training material is grouped according to sections in an increase in complexity. You can approximately evaluate the study of each section as the acquisition of an additional 100 rating points. Thus, our textbook should conduct you according to the steps of chess skill from the rating of 1600-1700, meaning the mastery of the basics of chess knowledge, to a completely solid level of 2200 or more points, which in practice approximately corresponds to the level of the candidate for the master. This book completes the 25-year work of the author to create a textbook of chess tactics. Of course, one tactical skill of all opponents cannot be defeated, but there is nothing to do without it in chess. Tactics are perhaps the most vivid and attractive that is in chess, especially at the initial stages of the path to skill. I hope that the study of this book will strengthen your desire to systematically engage in chess and give genuine pleasure. I will say without false modesty: this hope is nourished by information about the success that our first book uses all over the world.
