The book involves more than 550 characters of all social strata of Russian society at the beginning of the 19th century. Initially, Tolstoy also considered other options for the name: “Three Pores”, “1805”, “Day in Moscow”, “From 1805 to 1814”. But he stopped at the War and the World.
Fiction against the backdrop of real historical events immediately caused a huge resonance. The novel still takes 3rd place in the list of the best books of all time according to Time. He became the most published work of adult fiction in the USSR. The total circulation for 1918-1986 amounted to 36.1 million copies.
The book includes the third and fourth volumes of the work.
