In the ninth volume of the collected works, the collection “People and Books”, dedicated to the “Nekrasov”, entered. Among the articles of K. Chukovsky are stories about the writers of the 1860s printed in the Nekrasov “contemporary”, the life and work of Nikolai Uspensky, Vasily Sleptsov, A. V. Druzhinin, their relationship with Nekrasov, their social position - all this recreates the literary situation era.

In the application, the critical articles of Chukovsky about the writers of the 19th century, scattered through inaccessible publications are placed. Among these works are articles about Taras Shevchenko, A, K. Tolstoy, I.V. Omulevsky, about memoirs T. Passek and E. Zhukovskaya. Most articles were not reprinted after the revolution.
